Airbag connector help
Hi guys and gals, i've read most of the threads on how to sort out this intermittent airbag fault on the tourer but i'm at a brick wall in terms of confidently messing with the plugs. Is anyone in or around the coventry, warwickshire, kenilworth area confident enough to tackle this for me? The mot is due soon and it will fail with this fault so need to get it resolved asap.
Many thanks in advance |

same here... any light???
i am also not confident person with this kind of situations, but believe me, look for the yellow plug and wiggle it, if it doesn t go down the light, then i think the next step is to unplug and plug again a few times.... but i will wait the professional guys here to advice you and me... today light up and apart from all the wiggle the light stays on... sometimes it would light up and wiggling the cables, the light all the times went out... this time just doesnt go down... the next step is to disconnect the yellow plug and reconect??? am i right thinking that usually is this that all of you do??? |

Lates
Simon,
Suggest you contact Leighton and Pete in Grandborough, only 18 miles from you. Lates600.com They only work weekends, but what they don't know about 75's and Zt's is frankly not worth knowing. Had the same problem on mine Leighton removed the plugs and spliced the cables direct. |

normal culprits for an intermittent fault are under seat plugs and or the rotary coupler in the steering column

Mine were the underseat connectors.........I cut them off and joined together again with more robust connectors......worked a treat.

Of the 6 or 7 cars I've had they all at one time or another have had this fault. There was even a bulletin issued by MGR on the subject
In short the cause is poor quality contacts in the connectors and believe it or not, fumes from the seat foam causing the connectors to tarnish. The solution is very simple. Just put the connectors together and pull them apart a handful of times which clean the contact within the plug. Do this on both blue and yellow connectors on both front seats. Also make sure they are clipped in the seat frame and not left hanging. As I said I've done this on every car that has had the problem and it's never failed.
