Default Just how useless Dealers can be.........

Water in the boot wheel well meant that today was spent removing the lamp clusters, cleaning up the surfaces and resealing the lamp unit seals.

When I removed each unit I discovered that some of the bolt holes and surrounding metal had been distorted causing cracks in the surface paint and general unsightliness

Couldn't figure it out until I realised that the most likely cause is over-tightening of the nuts onto the bolts - probably through use of a power tool where none is needed. The units only came off a few years ago when the bumper was removed and refitted. Not much care shown there aarrgh.

Ah well, a good dose of Waxoyl was given before putting the units back and I'll get them looked at for straightening when I have the bonnet resprayed later this year.

And yes, I know R40 is dirty, and really don't need that fact pointing out

Mike

Looks like whoever fitted those was concerned they might fly off at speed. Bloomin moron if you ask me. Were both the gaskets split?

Yes both had splits- here's a pic of one. Not fully split but 75% around the join.

Let's hope they were the cause. Lots of water in the well but no damp carpet or side trims at all so can't see the problem being anything else.

Same as mine, I peeled the join apart and glued back together with clear silicone and just for good measure squeezed a dot onto the metalwork where the join is seated.
I'ts amazing just how much water will pass just one let alone both.

I remember when I found the gasket had split on mine... Wheel well wasn't too bad but it took two days to dry the boot carpet out!
