It's all good and only get a problem in winter on the high passes.

Just north of Helmsdale (should you fancy a run to John O'Groats) there are a few tight hairpins high on the coast but not really a problem either.

If you go west from Helmsdale (the run up the side of the river is lovely) then you'll likely be on single track roads but with very little traffic.
