Thanks for your time and effort, it is appreciated. It certainly looks like the regulator. I surmise that if it was a wiring fault, it would be either all the time or intermittent, rather than ok when the car is first started and then deteriorating as it warms up.

Sounds a bit like the O-rings on the regulator may need changing, low cost but fiddly job to do, starter motor as to come off takes about an hour overall, link for the O-rings below

Thanks for the link, O rings ordered. Pushed my luck too far, car managed to get me to work but at home time, starts and then cuts out after 2-3 seconds
