Default Helmsdale Scotland

Out of the blue, we have been offered a riverside cottage in Helmsdale for free in June. I am thinking about a fly drive London to Inverness/Edinburgh or taking the Caledonian Sleeper. The other option is to drive the V6 up. Has anyone done the drive or taken the sleeper? Thanks for helping

It would be a fabulous drive BUT a long one. You could always stop off overnight along the way and make the journey part of your adventure?

Swmbo's family live in Alness so we've done the drive regularly, albeit with a slightly different starting point.

I took the sleeper once, swore I'd never do it again.

The drive however is a different thing - especially if you can break it up with a night in a bed and breakfast or hotel. Thoroughly enjoyable, just watch out for deer

having just looked at the map I think that would be a fab drive and one that I would love to do at sometime.. always wanted to go up to that area and around the top.

anyway - saying that - I agree it will be a long one.. but - if you are not planning on going back - may be worth it??

kev

Definitely worth stopping over a night or two and breaking it up a bit and enjoy it properly without rushing around.

Sounds like a Grand Tour Phil

Went up to Scotland twice last year, first time in the car and the second time we flew.......I'd take the car and enjoy the journey........lot less stress than the airport

Cool

Drive. You just have to drive, do a stopover.
I drove up this year in Banana. Loved it. Going up again September.
