Caravan Club always was the 'snob' club, if you or your van did not meet requirements then you were frowned upon.
The Camping and Caravan club was more relaxed, as it had a good mixture of old and new vans along with trailer tents and tents.... however the way to enjoy the C&C and gain from its benefits is to join in with your local District Association (DA) in Gateshead this was Durham DA

However a lot of DA meets are held on sites that are not always fully serviceable, and have no club houses etc, this is because the DA members made their own entertainment, with social nights, quizes, competitions etc

You can use C&C Sites where there are all the facilities, but we found them far to costly,

Plenty of sites out there that offer great pitches and facilities, without hiked up Club Prices

Totally agree Keith, we have used a few privately run sites a few times now and they are so much cheaper. If the club sites offered a discount to members then it would be worth the membership fee. I know that non members pay more, but the members' price is still too expensive

It isn't just caravans where the snobbery occurs - it is just about everything, cars, houses, where you live, jobs, clothes - the list goes on.
Not trying to defend the caravan club - each to their own as far as i am concerned, been a member of the caravan club for nearly 5 years now - my first van was a 1986 Elddis, last van, that i have only just parted with, was a 1993 Sprite & my new van is still 14 years old - i always end up chatting with people on the sites & have never let it bother me what i turn up in ( i do drive a Rover 75 after all )
All clubs are what you make of them ( including this one )
Just my opinion.

I think you get the sympathy vote, Steve. You can just here them saying when you drive in "Look at that poor man having to drive that old tractor"
