Default E.C.U again!

Sadly my ZTT was sold after having a new E.C.U. fitted and now my Rover looks to be heading the same way.
The engine suddenly stopped and there is no engine management light on the dashboard, even for a few seconds.
I took the e.c.u out and did the airing cupboard thing and the light appeared on the dash and the car started first time. I managed about 100yds before it failed again. So question is, if I buy a new unit is it a plug and go or do I need to get the car to a T4 machine.

Contact one of the T4 guys, and they'll be able to sort it, BigRuss, or marinabrian should be able to assist

I had the same thing with mine when I first got it - marinabrian sorted it out (mine was so bad it needed a new ECU) very quickly by post for an extremely reasonable price - less than £200 - and I am forever in his debt!

As has been mentioned BigRuss is also rather good at sorting this stuff out.

You have been out, sorted/rodded your plenum's and bought a drivers side leaf guard from Jules I take it?I knew nothing of the problem until I joined here so there is no shame in it, it's a stupid place to put an ECU that can and will take on water.

Yes thanks. I have even drilled the spy hole. The car has been dry for quite a long time since Marina Brian upgraded it. He did point out at the time that the ECU had been wet at some time. Seems this is a delayed effect of that wetting.

Both! In fact a bucket of water will do.

Ken, you have my details, get the ECM into a jiffy bag and I'll sort it out for you

And in answer to your original question, if you bought a new ECM it would need to be coded to the car using T4, and once coded to the car cannot be subsequently reprogrammed for another vehicle

It is on its way to you as I write this. Thank you again. Hope you can do something with it but even if you can't I appreciate your efforts.

Kind Regards

Ken.

So! I sent it to marinabrian and because of the bank holiday he didn't get it until 2nd or 3rd and I received it back today 5th May.
Put it back in the car and it started first time. I don't know yet what he did to it but it runs like a dream.

Very pleased. Again.
