Even if it doesn't look dirty, clean it. Worked for me.
Plus one to that.
My contacts didn't look dirty at all, applied some contact cleaner (by the way it's really good stuff for lots of things like when people drop their phones down the loo, or just general crud on circuit boards), and I got one direction of mirror movement working. Took it out and cleaned again and then all of them started working!

Thumbs up

Fantastic advice, fixed mine with this method yesterday

Contacts all looked clean but a bit of brake cleaner on a cotton bud and voila! Working mirrors!

I have just had to do mine too, a mass of dust just under the top cover, but the actual switches looked clean enough. None the less the mirror up button had failed. A quick clean and full operation restored.

Headlight wash failure to investigate next.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

From doing it yesterday - I struggled to unplug it too. I failed to find any catch and just pulled harder and away it came.

Just had my switch pack apart and cleaned the contacts with some IPA. All working now. Black connector needs to be released by squeezing the side, but the white one just pulls out with a bit of persuasion.
Took me less than an hour and that included giving it all a good clean with a brush to remove all the dust and then a damp cloth around all the switches. Looks much better as well now.

This was one of those little jobs that I've put off for some time, but very straightforward when you take your time.
As mentioned earlier, the contacts looked clean, but a wipe over with a cotton-bud soaked with my daughter's nail polish remover, now has the switch/mirrors working perfectly.
Many thanks for the "how-to", guys.

Perhaps your application of WD40 didn't help very much? I'd be tempted to try cleaning again to make sure all residue of WD is got rid of.

Angus

Totally agree WD40 is nasty stuff many years ago before I retired one of the swimming pool managers in one of the buildings I was responsible for, got his staff to spray every lockers lock barrel with the stuff 400 wet side lockers and 350 dry side lockers it took my maintenance team eighteen months to undo the damage his use of WD40 had done. For locks Kabba lock cleaner for any electrical board a high purity solvent like IPA which totally evaporates leaving no residue.
WD40 has its uses, but the fish oil in it attracts dirt and dust leaving everything sticky and very difficult to clean.
Best to strip down the controller and clean everything with IPA or aftershave terminals can be cleaned with a fibre glass pen before being cleaned again with a cotton bud with IPA on it. Removing the fish oil from the WD40 will take several attempts it is a very sticky stuff
Best of luck
Alan
