I meant to mention about focus screens. I dont know what EOS camera you have, but there are split focus screens available for some models, and that will help with focusing. Trying to find these screens, I came across THIS very relevant site

Thanks for the reply.

I thought that this was also going to be the answer to another problem that has just arisen. The auto-focus on my 18 to 50mm lens has stopped working, so I'm having to focus manually now and it is not easy at all.

I followed the link and it looked very promising indeed. Unfortunately, during a search for screens I found a list of Canon cameras that could have the focus screens changed, and those that can't, and my camera was in the latter group. It was worth a try.

The adapter ring should be here soon, and it will be interesting to see if that works or not.

Cheers,
Jim

You will be able to change it, it went in in if first place, however the retaining clip is easily damaged. Look into the mirror. They used to be a thin silver coloured metal clip, partially hidden by the damping foam surrounding it.

I have never changed one on a 'non removable' one, but I have refitted a few that have popped out from over enthusiastic cleaning by the owners.

I did actually find one mention of a focussing screen for the camera, but it has been discontinued. There is a company in the USA that says they will make custom screens, though it would probably be more expedient to get another 18 to 50mm lens!
