According to the manual:
Remove the interior light housing and using a suitable tool, turn the manual drive socket in the motor drive gear.

Hi,
You need to take the front interior light unit out and then you should be able to see the motor unit. The sunroof can then be closed by using an allen key in the gearbox part!
Spare motors can be got from e-bay (bmw e-46,mini and rover are all the same). Find the cause of motor failure before replacing (could well be sun shade brackets have jammed) motor. New sun shade brackets are available but there are 2 types (early and later ones).

You may have to remove the motor before you're able to turn the allen key, that's what I've found in the past

Cheers guys. Allen keys at the ready after the morning pot of tea. The sun roof jammed so I'm pretty sure it will be the motor that was making all the horrid burning smells.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

If I buy a Merc (highly likely) I'll be keeping the Rover and slowly sorting out all it little issues. I test drove a 178k mile E270CDI yesterday though. It drove like a new car, so the chassis and running gear are in top condition but the engine was nowhere near as smooth as the 75. Quality wise though, there is no comparison. The Merc E is in a class of it's own really.

Ive got an allen key in it but it wont budge, not even a fraction. Is that normal or has it fried itself solid?

Can you get the motor out without dropping the headlining?
