Default Squeel with aircon on, when its hot....

A problem I've noticed this year, has only happened a few times, but when I start the car and turn the air con on, theres a loud squeak/squeal. It reminds me of the noise my dads old sierra used to make when it was wet, the noise changes as you rev the car, and it has only happened when the car has been parked in the sun for a few hours when its been 26+ degrees outside. Is this likely to be belt related? Or compressor or something?

As you have a diesel Derrick, it is likely to be the crankshaft pulley beginning to fail.

Thanks, I had a feeling I'd read somewhere that a squeal could indicate that. Is there a check I can do? Got a feeling I've read something about spraying it with water?

Hope it's not that though as from what I can see its pretty expensive!

Spray some water onto the crank while it is running. If it stops squealing, you have found the problem.. But I suggest you have a look at the belt that drives the a-con and its adjuster pulley first.

Thanks, I'm hoping the weather is ok this weekend so I can get out and do a few things, will have look then. The belt is only about 2 years old, fitted as the original had started to crack.
