It all depends on what you mean by 'cooling fan'. The diesels have a unique fan control system that can't be used in other models. The earlier diesels have/had a three speed motor whereas the 1.8s have always been 2-speed. All later models have the same 2-speed fan motors, but are controlled differently by engine variant.
What exactly do you want to do? TC |

The same plastic blade, probably yes. The same motor - maybe if later diesel with external resistor. The control box and plastic shroud - no.

If going from an old 3 speed fan (no resistor) to a 2 speed you need to fit the resistor and also do a bit of rewiring as well. Im sure I read a post somwhere where somone did that ??? |

If your diesel has a three speed fan motor (likely as the two speed ones don't usually wear out), then the replacement will also need to be a three speed motor unless you fancy changing wiring, and possibly the control box.
Rebrushing your existing motor is not difficult, provided you've got a powerful soldering iron and the commutator is not worn out.

re cdti fan
Visit Jules' forum shop, full replacement fan with all the info. I am buying one tomorrow.
Look at the fan from the front of the car, if there is a silver resistor at roughly 2 o'clock then you have the 2 speed. No resistor means 3 speed - like mine. Jule's kit comes with everything you need- other than the skill and tools to fit it. £139 plus p&p. Better, quieter fan and for about half the price of OEM one.....

I fitted a 2 speed fan from a 1.8t to my cdt which originally had a 3 speed one, the shroud is exactly the same but had to rewire the control box. There is a how to on here detailing the procedure

Not sure but I think I read somwhere the KV6 petrol fan was rated as a 450 watt fan and the 1.8 was 400 watt ? Personally cant see why MGR would have bothered with different rated fans ??

Diesel & KV6: 450 watts 3 speed (superseeded by 2 speed) 1.8: 250 or 350 watts and 2 speeds (RAVE says that the lower power motor was fitted to manual gearbox cars without air conditioning of which there are few). Quote:
