Hmm, I and a group of mates in our early teens used to "do" the I-Spy books, and learnt so much from them ; in fact whilst walking over Newmarket heath on Friday near to the racecourse, I was telling my sister how I used to visit the car parks on race days, to talk to chauffeurs about their posh cars, and they'd let me look around them, then update my books. In the early sixties the car parks were full of Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Armstrong Siddleys, stunning motors. There would also be a few visiting aircraft.
I was in a church choir and on demand of the choir master one night, fed by then of all the peas being shot at him, those in possession of pea shooters had to place them on top of the choir stalls - the last to produce his, was his own son. All eighteen of us. |

Planes, trains and automobiles!
RAF planes. Being brought up in Monifieth and an ex RAF father fairly natural. Used to lie in bed at night hearing Lightnings and Phantoms screeching overhead on exercises and real Russian Bear intercepts. Now live even closer to RAF Leuchars but alas no more aircraft there as it has just been turned into an Army base! ruined my Friday afternoon drive down to end of runway. Another reason why I hate politicians!
Trains...mad about them too. Had a pretty expansive train layout in loft.. Twin circuits branch loop and terminus stations. Gosh I miss that layout. My brother demolished it when I left home and built a very poor continental layout! Not that I am bitter of course! And...of course spent 1980/81 chasing Deltics! ( if you have to ask...you wouldn't understand) Cars...was fairly mad about Ford Escorts and Mercedes cars. Neither of my parents had cars or coukd drive at the time so I was the first in our family to have a car. Mark 1 1300XL Escort in mint condition. Soon as I could! Girls were an interest that waited until I started work at 18 in TSB Scotland. There were some very nice girls worked there. Was far too shy at school ... Should have stuck to the cars, planes and trains... |

Yep Chris you could have bought your own personal Deltic with the cash saved.
I got quite a shock yesterday when I clicked on categories (craftwork) on Microsoft Money? The boss has managed to spend 17k and rising in a tad under five years That's not a mis print btw. |

Into a lot of things when i was young, i remember i had a collection of lead figures, indians cowboys and knights. But never played indoors,i used to go up the mountain behind house and played with these on the banks of a small stream. Also done normal thing as a boy in the 50s,bird egg collection and catching frogs.I won't tell you what we used to do to those poor fogs, may get be banned. We also went camping up the mounting on fri/sat night,we made the tent by sewing meat sacks together, got trampled on one night by sheep curious to know where the smell was coming from. I don't think my g/children have ever seen a clear sky at night full of stars.

A bike like this was my 8th or 9th bike by the time I was 15, a 350cc Bultaco Trials bike.
At 5, I was driving this, got sold when I was about 12 years old. Built by my late father, had a BSA Bantam motor and later a 125cc Suzuki engine.
