Default Amp for Harmon Kardon Sub-Woofer

Need some help please. Im planning to buy and fit an HK sub into my saloon. Ive already got an Alpine head unit with 3 sets of pre-outs and want to buy a suitable (preferably Alpine) amp. My question is does the HK sub accept a mono signal ie just 2 wires in or a stereo signal on 4 wires. If you have one could you have a quick look for me so I know what amps will be suitable. Has anyone else done this mod and do you recommend it bearing in mind that Im much more a fan of Classic FM than I am of Max Power!!
Thanks.
