To give a bit of balance to this thread, I, too had a bad experience back in the day (circa 1998) in the Midlands and after a letter of complaint, the matter was cleared up to my satisfaction.
I didn't use them again for ages until I moved back to Cambridge and then decided to give them another chance with some tyre fitting and other general work. I have to say that they were professional, competitive and trustworthy. A pleasant surprise. I think it always goes a long way to make sure you speak to the person who is going to be working on your car and sound them out about how they plan to do things. It prevents misunderstandings such as the time when I had my 15" X-Spoke alloys refurbished on my Maestro and took them to get new tyres fitted. I came back a few hours later to find out that the fitter had hammered weights onto the outside of the rim, taking of chunks of the new finish.... Grrrr. That wasn't Kwikfit though. Recently I've used http://concordeautocentre.com/ in Camrbidge - they seem very good indeed and are competitive on price. That's where I'm going these days :-) |

Maybe the ire aimed at Kwik-Fit should be instead directed where the problems lies the companies Japanese owners who are out to gouge as much profit from the UK as they possibly can!

I passed there last night, yes, it is still there....well the building and the signs are there. It was out of business hours, so a a quick google for the phone number is advisable.

In the summer I had to go and see my terminally ill mother, as I pulled away from the care home care park in the Freelander there was a noise from the NSF wheel which sounded like metal on metal. Obviously a concern, more so as the pads and discs where only some 20k old. I was 150 miles from home and was not going to chance driving it that far to get it looked at. Because of the nature of the visit I was intending on staying for sometime and had booked a hotel. First thing the following morning I had a choice to make; try and get into a local Landy dealer or KwikFit. So called KwikFit (what did we do before mobile phones?) explained the situation and booked it in early that morning. Whilst it was up on the hoist and they were looking at the cause the phone went again for me to get to the care home. Now. Spoke to the receptionist and said I needed it back. They put it back together, explained the caliper was badly corroded and sticking on and the disc was also shot. They could fix it that day if I agreed and if I could get it back as and when, which I could and did.
The journey back home was not a good one but at least the car was safe - so a thumbs up from me from KwikFit. |

surely employees with a conscience shouldn't work there. I personally couldn't rip anyone off even if my employer told me to.
