2.0 diesel oil filter
If I had hair, I'd pull it out.....
I understand that there are two different types of oil filter that exist for my 2002. Diesel. Is there any way of identifying which one I need by entering the reg no or even vin no? Also how essential is it to change the o rings on the filter cap? Never realised there were so many variables for an oil change..... |

As for the o-ring you will get a replacement in the oil filter box that you buy from your local parts place. http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/MG...3785be8&000231 Hopefully that link works.

The filter cap can be a pain to remove if the previous person has done it up too tight also, a 36mm (iirc) socket is perfect for the job.

ENDED UP REALISING IT REALLY ISN'T PRACTICAL NOT HAVING A CAR TO GET AROUND AND I NOW OWN A VW EOS 3.2 V6 INDIVIDUAL (1 OF 20 REMAINING IN THE UK WITH THAT ENGINE AND TRIM COMBO) EVEN THOUGH I STILL LIVE ON A BUSY ROAD WITHOUT A DRIVE |

As above ,only ever seen one kind of filter.
O rings ??????? Never changed one yet. The cap ring is only under gentle compression so seems to just keep on working. It's not how tight you do up the cap that makes this seal work. It is under exactly the same SIDEWAYS pressure all the way down as you tighten the cap. All you need is for the cap to be tight enough not to unscrew by itself. Tighter is NOT better,--- |

If the cap is tight you'll need a surface drive socket - a 6 or 12 point may damage the cap - they are relatively soft.
