Default Russian Navy now

A Type 45 shadows one of Russia's finest rust buckets.

Pity the Type 45 doesn't have any ASM capability - yet.

I think that heap of junk could be tracked for miles - it's radar signature must be massive.

Guessing within the past 4-weeks? A Russian ship was reported off the NE coast and the RN had to send a Destroyer (Type 45 with no Anti-ship armament) from Portsmouth to intercept.

Why did they have to send a destroyer (although it is ironic it is a destroyer that cannot destroy lol)

That to me, is the start of chest puffing, which could ultimately lead to a stand off at least, war at worst

---------------------

On a slightly related note, (slightly!). I saw a post on Facebook, about Obama's stance (and the rest of the western world's) on the annexing of Ukraine/Crimea. But it is OK for the Israel annexing of Palestine/West Bank et al. Another of my pet irritations - but i will try not to get started

Perhaps not so much what they sent but where she had to sail from and the amount of time it took for her to get there.

Besides we don't have too many surface units available nowadays. Having said that a Frigate would have been a better choice. But it's that same as the Bear Hunt over the North Sea thread and a pair of Typhoons intercepting the Bear Bombers.

A Type 45 is a pretty deadly bit of kit from an anti-aircraft platform perspective. When on patrol in the South Atlantic could probably dispatch the entire Argi' air force before they left their own airspace.
