Are you using your car's tachometer Tam? It's not sufficiently accurate. Test 7.2 on the instrument pack diagnostics would be worth trying or, better still, a diagnostic tool.

Many thanks for all your suggestions which i will check . But I have found that if I rev to 1200 (on the rev counter)it stops completely. I also have a slight misfire at revs below 1200. Not sure if that gives any more clues.
