Default Thermostat?

Just recently I spoke about heating in the car was atrocious, any way I t has now been suggested the thermostat is faulty, apparently the temperature of the circulation into the heater was low coming out at only 54 degrees back into the system, although the gauge reaches midway point quite quickly, so suggested the thermostat is faulty. It is a 2.5 V6.

Thoughts please.

Sorry yes 9 o'clock.
Since when has the temp indicator been at 6 unless it's not registering at all?

Yes they all start there but some stop "half way" ( mid way point ) between the 6 and 9 o'clock position so tend to give the game away.----------

So what's your prognosis then, could it be the thermostat not opening properly causing no heat or at the best just warm,

The temp gauge suffers from BMW's "clever" electronics whereby the scale isn't linear as you might expect. Once the coolant is in the range between 75C and 115C, the gauge will sit in the middle (9 O'Clock) and all will seem normal.

The gauge doesn't really tell you much about what's happening.

You can use the diagnostic mode to get the actual temp to display on the dash which will give a better picture.

Poor heating could be caused by lack of coolant, airlocks or a blocked heater matrix - or a thermostat stuck open.

Edited to add - it could also be faulty air flaps in the heater box.

Is this a joke, or what?
Surely you by now know how to display the temperature directly on the screen??
If that temperature is always low, then the thermostat does not close perfectly.

Is this the first of April??

If not, I have a solution for you.!
