Yes, it will hinge round so far. The cutaway is to allow complete removal to enable you to swap the whole shebang.

If you undo the shroud and pull the battery side of the shroud forward you can reach in and undo the fan mounting bolts, once the fans unbolted you can feed the wiring relay box etc out as well.
Thanks. Will see how it goes. Right now, salvaging what's left of my greenhouse! Doris has hit pretty hard and no way i'm going near the car today!

yeah, i got as far as removing the bumper and the crash bar, then saw I needed to remove the entire front and bottled it! I plan to have another go tomorrow..got the brushes from a place in Croydon as recommended on here...I think I will take photos along the way, as sooner or later every 75 owner will have to go through this process by the looks of it. And, I feel i'm giving something back to this forum instead of always asking for advice!

Theo,

Club member Arctic has posted some superb pictorial guides to brush renewal. They're worth a look whilst you wait for the storm to subside.

Three of us then but if one of the torx fixing is damaged in any way you can forget it. also it does not take much longer cutting round the A/C pipes in my opinion.

Take your time you will be ok Arctic

Default If I can do it.....fan motor brushes

I have just completed the 'rights of passage' as a Rover 75 owner and changed the brushes inside the fan motor.

Thought I might share my experience with a newbies who will sooner or later have to undergo the same ritual:

First of all, allow a full day...5hrs in my case. There are three seemingly impossible jobs ahead: 1st, to remove the two torque screws mounted on either end of the radiator: my friendly mechanic had to drill them out! Why they are troque screws is anyone's guess!
2nd, the breaking of the cowel...you just have to accept that Rover wanted this to be as hard as possible...you have to literally break the surrounding plastic around the pipes to be able to free the cowel from the radiator. and lastly, actually getting the lid off the motor fan. A pig of a job took nearly an hour of squeezing and pulling before being able to prise the lid off to get at the brushes..then of course you have to be a dab hand at soldering..I'm not...but did my best. finally got it all back together. Have no idea if it will work yet....exhausted.

A hot knife makes it easy and does a tidy job.
