Post Gear knob reattach

i have a rover 75 and the gear knob isn't attached its just sat on I can lift it on and off how do I reattach it so it stops moving I believe its a D type one if I am correct in my knowledge It has a silver rim that twists so I thought it might screw on but nothing shows it attaches so I have no idea can anyone help me out with any info

Should just push on and click into place. Mine wouldnt turned out the gaiter wasnt sat properly and was preventing the knob from going far enough to click on

More than likely a broken insert, maybe be a replacement knob is the remedy.

there are two different size inserts as well, black and white, black is smaller than the white.

Yep I just lazy and ran out of cash to spend on little bits but I'm slowly getting back now I put up with it until a drunk mate other day took it off and started throwing it around the car.

Bostik.

A 'D' type knob won't fit an 'O' type shaft, but can be drilled out to allow it to do so.

An 'O' type knob will fit onto a 'D' type shaft, but will spin round.

In either case, a drop of adhesive like Araldite will fix it permanently.
