Default Engine performance mods

Hello, I am thinking of modifying something for my 2.0 V6 Petrol engine for better engine performance or BHP or whatever, not something really major, but just small or relative medium modifications to add some power to it, any tip is welcome, now for example I want to modify the air filter on my own and fit a sport conic one and build one on my own, similar to a K&N one, and then maybe a remap, I didn't inform myself about remapping and it's benefits, but I heard it improves performance, and then of course, waiting for your thoughts for other mods that can be done

EDIT: So the methods that I already know of are:

1. Chiptuning
2. Remapping
4. Air filter replacement for a sport one

Some thoughts about these ones would be welcome and of course, as I said, maybe you know more methods to achieve more power and torque

I have the same engine as you and i also want to replace the air filter for a sport cone one.

I have read about it and i came across this guide on the forum from Colin.
http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=240241

Guide is easy to follow and very detailed (a lot of pictures)

But im planning on doing that when the weather gest a little bit better.
Good luck with yours!

Before you do anything else make sure it's all working as it should, VIS motors are renown for not working, that will make a bit of difference.

About the cone sport filter, I merely talked to a mechanic about it and he told me that of course, you can do it, but it can be that the engine sucks more dust in the engine over time, and he also said that it's some kind of special thing or oil or idk what that you have to use every week to clean the filter or something like that, now idk because I don't know much about this stuff

You dont have to clean the filter every week.

See K&N website http://www.knfilters.com/cleaning.htm

They explain when to clean your filter and how to do this.

If you have DEEP pockets the following is the max
1, K&N filter or similar
2, Full stainless steel exhaust from the manifold
3, Piper 270 cams
4, Port and polish the heads
5, Remap
There is not much on the market for the KV6, and if you do go down that route there is not much gain for the investment. I have the 190 engine and really under estimated the true cost of doing the above to my engine and have abandoned 3 and 4 down to the cost verses the gains.

The cheapest way to make a 2.0 V6 go quicker would be to replace it with a 2.5.

^^^

Very much this!

Fit an alternative air intake, make sure the VIS motors are working properly (as well as the cooling system/fan) and maybe a stainless exhaust

But you'll get very little out of that engine and may as well get the 190 V6 or a CTDi/1.8T and remap them, a lot more to gain that way. The V6 is about up to as good as it'd ever get without spending way more than the cars worth and which you'll never get back!

And, ironically, those are the only mods which will make any difference. I’m no expert, but I have friends who run a saloon car racing team (not Rovers, sadly!) – they tried every chip and remap available for various normally-aspirated BMW engines, and found no performance gains – in most cases, performance was actually reduced. Different matter with a turbo diesel though

They also assured me that, for anything remotely like a normal engine, the standard filter and exhaust were more than adequate and, again, there would be no power advantage in ”upgrading” them.

But, expect countless posts saying “I fitted a K&N filter to my Rover, and it’s SO much quicker now…” in medicine, this is known as the “placebo effect”.
