Default The new arrival

Hi guys

Recently, I've was on Gumtree looking at things, as you do - camera gear, cars and what not. An ad for a low mileage 75 caught my eye, even better, it was fairly local. A 1.8 Turbo as well. In BRG, a colour I admire. One of my old Rover Coupe was BRG and I like the colour a a lot. Anyway, car had no MOT and the guy wanted £400. I thought I'll make the trip along with my friend. After seeing it, I was keen on it but wanted to get him down on the price. I made a return trip to check it out again and we struck a deal. Just over a couple of hundred. 56k on the clock, part service history, Club SE spec, bodywork is good, not great.

Booked the MOT the same night and drove it straight to the garage and left keys with them. MOT next day but failed on a head light bulb, front drivers side shock absorber and a rear broken spring. Spring was broken in 3 pieces. Not bad considering. Got a used shock and new spring for a great price and my friend helped me fit it. Just took the car for a re test today and it's now passed. so, it's now on the way. I have to say, it drives fantastically well. A lot better then my diesel and better then the V6 I had before. Very smooth and not bad on fuel either, manual of course.

For anyone that knows me, I have many plans for it.

I'll be looking to move the diesel on soon and will be taking all the bits off to put on the new car. Will be looking for a new, low mileage car for a daily driver, especially now that I have a business to run.

Anyway, a few pics.

The day i bought it.

Shock being changed. It had to be cut out first.

The rear broken spring

Has to drive through this to get to the MOT station this morning.

I am intrigued by your slightly medieval approach to removing the old front strut - presumably the top pinch bolt would not shift, so you cut through it with an angle grinder. How did you then get the remains of the strut out of the hub to fit the replacement strut ?? Or, did you get a whole replacement strut/hub as one lump (in which case there would be no need to chop the strut off the old hub). Please enlighten us.

Cheers

Pete

Hi Pete

Yes, the top bolt wouldn't shift. It completely rounded.
I had ordered a shock and caliper and the guy sent the entire spare hub which came into use so the hubs were swapped over. So, shock absorber was cut and swapped hubs but swapped my working caliper and brakes over. Fitted a new bottom bolt and track rod end.

Love it Rav - it looks so stately.

It seems like you are with an angle grinder what I am with a chainsaw and brushcutter. Nothing gets in the way and remains standing!

I did 60 miles in it today and couldn't really fault it but time will tell if it's a good one. And even if it isn't, for the money that I paid, it's not an issue and I won't lose sleep over it. And no history of HGF. After all, "they all do that"...

Just tidy it up up a little. Nothing major. It's a weekend toy this one and just add some walnut bits to it from the diesel and just to keep it reliable and take to shows.

I agree, I do like Copperleaf red a lot. One of the best colours. As is this one.
