NAV Splash screens
Quote:
I have just updated my Jap unit to a MK4 Nav unit. Of course I was forced to update the splash screen as well, as the original German supplied one irritated the heck out of me. Here is my effort in real life... Any others?

Here are my original images for those who want them…
This image is for the MK4 Nav with a newer 16:9 wide screen format monitor. This image is for the MK4 Nav with an older 4:3 format monitor. The smaller screen squeezes the logo in so it looks normal when viewed. Enjoy

Just found out how to add a picture to a reply.
Here is my splash screen, the photo was taken by Keith who owned the car before me and I added the logo. |

Here is mine on the Eclipse:
The protective plastic sheet is still on the screen so it looks a little dull.

Hi Andy,
Sadly, I think not, I'm in the same position as you. I seem to remember reading a very long thread on x5 where several people had spent weeks/months comparing notes and I think some managed it, but unless your a PC wizard it's not do-able.

Updating Mk4 Nav Splash Screens
Quote:
For the record this is the process I used (unashamedly plagiarised from some other forum) Updating Mk4 Nav Splash Screens You need a couple of applications to get this working. (These are not the only ones you can use; it’s the ones I use, that’s all). 1: Navtweak ( http://rapidshare.com/files/8925524/navtweak.zip.html ) Free 2: imgburn ( http://tinyurl.com/8t63v ) Free 3: UltraIso ( http://tinyurl.com/2gxxp ) Shareware You can use other apps for 2 and 3, but you need Navtweak. To run Navtweak you also need to load the GTK+/WIN32 Runtime Environment ( http://gladewin32.sourceforge.net/ ) You also need a firmware image ( http://tinyurl.com/25w99h ) Free, this one is V29.1 Once you have downloaded the files, unzip them (using winzip or similar) into a sub-dir on your pc. This next bit sounds complicated, but is straight forward. 1: unzip the v29.1 image to a sub dir on your PC 2: install and open UltraIso, open UltraIso and navigate to /V_2/RR/0101/BMWC01S/app_sw then drag and drop the navboot file onto the desktop. 3: install and open navtweak, then open the navboot file into navtweak. 4: select the images tab, then the rombitmaps tab, and then scroll down to #14 and the right click and replace the image (with a one you downloaded and kept on your desktop). 5: save the navboot file (after making a copy of the original, just in case) 6: drag and drop the modded navboot file back into the open UltraIso image and overwrite the old navboot file with the modded one. 7: save the UltraIso (file, save as) and call it v29-modded.iso 8: install and open imgburn, open the v29-modded.iso file and place a blank CD in your DVD writer, then write at x1 speed only 9: follow the update procedure for upgrading the Nav computer. Job done The nav unit doesn't allow it to "update" with the same software as already installed. So you already have v29 (or v30) installed then you can downgrade to v28 then back up again. (That’s the simple way) OR You have to fake the SoftwareVersion. Do the following: also extract the 2 .tbl files from the directory: :\V_2\RR\0101\BMWC01S Open it in an HEX editor (like Freeware, PSPad http://www.pspad.com/en/) In the first line you find: 30 39 31 30 This means: 0800 So: Software-Version 08.00, Just edit the last 30 to 31 and you nav unit will think it's a new Software Version and you can update your V29 without prior downgrade to V28 The next time you update, you can edit it back to 0800 then 0801 again... Save the UltraIso image as v29.iso, then burn a CD at 1x speed. and that’s it.”

Hi Kiwi Rover,
Thanks very much for that info! Does it matter what type of image file, jpeg or gif?

I suspect that the image could be named anything as well although I haven’t tested this yet. In my case I used the same name as the original file i.e. "bitmap_014.gif" to prevent any issues.
