Hi John,

As per PM, I've a saloon loom that was acquired by accident and am in need of a tourer hi-line loom. I had some time back agreed to buy the one out our your 260 tourer from Corin, but funds have not been available sadly until now.

Ah, that clears that up then, thanks greeners, I wondered where it went on the saloon! I was thinking of using the shark fin though, I think they are superior receivers, what say you?

Hi all, sorry for the silence but I'm beavering away stripping 577 at the moment, will post some piccies of 05 as soon as it looks any different, I did cheer the old girl up today by hanging a front wing on her for the first time in an eon. I'm sure I heard a sigh, ah, bless!

I've had both and TBH there's not much difference in it. If you are keeping 005 as original as possible I'd go for the one under the shelf

Right then, for those of you who need your next fix of 005 progress. I have now completely gutted the inside of 577 and removed the all important wiring harness which I have shoved into 05. Wore me out, the ****** things heavy!
1&2 Try poking this lot into a metro
3&4 Thats a bit more like it
5 Side curtain airbags installed

I'm really impressed with this work. I don't know where you find the time or patience, and am envious of those qualities! As the other guys have said, good on you for taking on such a daunting project. I wish you the very best of luck with it and really look forward to seeing the final result, as we all are no doubt.

Thanks for your appreciation Trikey, Roger1 & Zeb, I'm glad a lot of you guys on the forum are as enthusiastic about the project as I am, and I really hope that my efforts persuade some more of you that a damaged ZT/Rover does not need to end its days in a breakers yard. Categories D+C are normally worth saving, especially when it comes to a 260 or a 75 V8, these cars are few & far between and need all of our help! as I have already stated in my answer to the thread on the damaged 260 on ebay at the moment, it IS repairable and IS worth saving and as long as it is repaired properly, will make a very nice car for someone.

A bit more progress
1 005's handbrake lever, I think I'd better change that!
2 That's better
3 Heater assembly & support bar installed
4 ECU installed, heater all wired up
A couple of minor differences worth mentioning. The heater assembly on the later car is quite a bit different, there is a control unit that was not present on 05's original heater unit and there was no condensate drain either. Simple fix, one rather large hole cutter later, and hey presto, 05 now has the late heater box.
I know it probably seems that I have not done much, but to be honest, I'm now back at the same stage I was at last night after fitting all the heater and reassembling the support bar, ecu's etc, only to find at the last minute that when I went to clip the heater loom into its bracket, the flap motor this bracket is attached to had been broken in the accident and was all floppy. I calmly (yeh, right!!) turned the garage lights off and went indoors.
Tonight, I returned to it, stripped the whole lot out again, repaired the mount and re-assembled. Ah, that feeling of deja-vu!
A lesson to remember here, when fitting a large part from a damaged vehicle, CHECK IT OUT, a whole lot of time and grief can be saved!

Todays progress, I have removed the rear axle assembly. What a monster that is, and jolly heavy too! I also removed the fuel tank, brake lines, heat shields, exhaust mounts, battery cable and various mounting clips. I have taken 005 off from the pallet she has been slumbering on for a long while, sat her on axle stands and removed the remains of the fuel tank and old brake pipes. The heat shields on the underside rear are like brand new,and will be re-used. More proof that the old girl really hardly ever turned a wheel! The underside is, like most of the rest of the body, in excellent condition. I do have to repair the floor though, where the pallet has pushed both of the rear passengers foot wells up, probably the result of moving with a forklift at some time but this is no great problem. I will give everything a good coat of looking at tomorrow and clean up all parts prior to re-assembly. Who knows, by this time tomorrow, 005 could have a rear axle in again. After all these years eh, don't that just get you all welling up inside!
