Default NO LONGER AVAILABLE :2001 Rover 75 Club 2.5 SE automatic saloon – Free to a good home

With heavy heart, I have decided it’s time for my R75 to move on to pastures new. The car is is MoT’d until May 2024, has dark metallic red with cream leather interior and has covered approximately 89,500 miles.

Bodywork is in reasonable condition, as is the interior. Photos of the car will be added shortly.

I bought the car in 2016 (78,152 miles) with a mis-fire that turned out to be a burnt exhaust valve in number 3 cylinder on the front cylinder bank. In the process of repairing this I also :

- Renewed all timing belts
- Renewed the water pump
- Installed an upgraded thermostat housing and new thermostat
- Fitted a replacement electric fan (supplied by Jules)
- Replace all spark plugs
- Renewed both VIS motors
- Renewed ignition coils to cylinders 1 and 3
- Renewed camshaft sensor
- Renewed air conditioning condenser
- Renewed both rear wheel bearings
- Replaced both front drop links

All relevant gaskets, seals etc also renewed.

I have subsequently maintained the car ‘no expense spared’ – and in 2023 :

- Renewed front discs, calipers and pads
- Renewed rear calipers and pads
- Renewed the rear section of the exhaust (starting from the exit of the catalytic convertor) including a Klarius rear box.
- Renewed the O/S road spring and replaced both rear drop links.
- Renewed transmission fluid. Changed oil etc.

Additionally, I have also installed a double DIN Apple CarPlay compatible Denon head unit, upgraded the door-mounted speakers and installed a sub-woofer under the front passenger seat. Front and rear doors have been lined with sound-deadening material to quieten road noise and improve audio quality.

Wiring adaptor harness also installed to allow the unit to be controlled using the buttons on the steering wheel. Suffice to say, the hi-fi sounds great!

I also installed a new Halfords battery.

I’ve used the car for three pan-European charity drives totalling some 11,000 miles – I have just returned from the most recent one. All have been completed without any major issues – though for the duration of the most recent and longest trip (3,300 miles), the cooling system was being increasingly pressurised, suggesting head gasket or porous liners etc. No water or oil mixing – the only symptom is residual pressure in the coolant reservoir and coolant being expelled through the overflow. I drove the car like this for over 300 miles per day – temperature stayed rock solid (90 – 95 degrees for much of the time). Topping the coolant up each morning was sufficient for me to complete the entire route.

I’ve no doubt that I could make some cash from removing the hi-fi and selling separately and also by breaking the car for spares. However, it’s given me a huge amount of pleasure – both to work on the car and to have driven it to so many countries around Europe. For this reason, I’m keen for it to go to someone in the forum who will preferably fix the car or use it to keep their vehicle on the road.

Car is in Bristol - please PM me if you’re interested.

Thanks for the interest in the R75. I've received lots of offers of a new home for the car and it's now gone.

Sorry to disappoint those who weren't successful..
