Vauxhall
Hi.
Makes me wonder what the outcome will be for Vauxhall and for that matter European GM (Opel) I certainly remember the disastrous Victor "F" that rotted out within a few short years. The Victor FB launched in 62 addressed a lot of the "F" issues then the FC Victor 101 was the first to have curved windows that gave more shoulder room. Vauxhall's mid and bigger engines were long lived and reliable the smaller ones in the Viva HA & HB though had a reputation for being "soft" Vauxhall have certainly had their troubles and I just wonder if the issues with the Zafira are a contributory reason for the companies problems. I wonder if they will survive and if like Rover a lot will loose their jobs. I'm actually surprised Fiat/Chrysler haven't come into the fore as the Doblo is also the Combo van and Fiat supply GM with engines, of course the Renault Trafic is the Vivaro. No doubt a worrying time for all concerned.

Well how Globalisation normally works, is that the purchaser will asset strip the Company, keep the bits they want and then close the Factories as they are "no longer viable". Sadly I give the Vauxhall and Opel Brands 4 years max.

GM hasn't made a profit from their European operations in years. Vauxhalls latest models are re-badged Buicks, i.e. Mokka = Buick Encore & Insignia = Buick Regal.
I think the PSA group want into the US auto market with the emissions debacle as it is. GM have a game changer of a car out at present in the Chevrolet Bolt (Opel Ampera), I'ts already car of the year over there even though it's only just hitting the showrooms, it's a full on EV Tesla equalling at less than half the price of the current model. reading around the forums it's going to sell huge even at petrol prices less than $3 a gallon over there. Edit: Just read that GM will allow PSA group to license GM's EV technology if the deal goes through which Peugeot/Citroen need and Opel are looking at being an EV only brand manufacturer, I don't know where that will leave Vauxhall! http://europe.autonews.com/article/2.../ANE/170219910

Sadly it looks like the Tories, will do to Vauxhall, what Labour did to MG Rover.
