Default Wheel Arch Clean-up

Whilst changing a rear wheel I noticed a couple of surface rust spots on the metal that the liner does not cover.... another job for the list !!

Looking at the liner it only seems to be held on with 4 or 5 retaining nuts, are they metal or nylon and will they undo ?

Also, after I've wire brushed all the surface rust off whats the recommended paint / rust killer to use?

I intend to put underseal over the paint to help protect it from further damage.

See posts 18 and 24 here. I used POR15 paint

Then dinitrol underbody wax over the lot.

The little nuts could be rusted on and the post may snap when you remove them, but worst case you can carefully drill a hole in the stud plate and refit them with a small bolt as I did.

As I recall, they are just plastic nuts that come off easily, and are reusable. I pulled my liners out when I redid the rear suspension last year. I was expecting to see a real mess under there, but it wasn't so bad. (2001 Tourer 140k) I just painted everything I could get to with Waxoyl before putting them back.
