Default On the way home, a compliment

Drove back from Mansfield today with the caravan on the back. pulled in at a service station. Having let the engine idle for a while I then lifted the bonnet to let the heat out. Was in the caravan when 2 elderly ladies walked over to the engine bay and had a look, they were followed by 2 elderly gentlemen. Went to see what was going on. One chap was a Rover retailer in years gone by and complimented me on the car.
was real happy about that. that happiness lasted about 70 miles and was wiped away by a stone flying through the air and putting a chip in the top right of the screen.

Is there a problem with your cooling system?

no no. I was brought up with an old car mentality and with the under tray fitted and sound deadening there is not much air flow over the engine when it is turned off. When I have been towing the caravan I always let the engine idle a couple of minutes before turning it off and lift the bonnet to let the heat out.

Driving along the A1 to collect the old man's refurbished wheels in the XW Tourer yesterday, and a van pulls alongside tooting and waving.

Once passed, the driver opened his window and gave a thumbs up.

It put a big smile on my face, but I bet wouldn't have got that driving the ZT

I remember doing the alpine passes in my 3500 and doing the same thing (it was before we learned about Kenlowe fans and gearbox oil coolers!)
