hi all, sorry i havent replied sooner,
Sticky caliper would be correct, went for a spin, and something didnt feel right pulled over, wheel very hot, so pulled up to a supermarket, went for a walk let it cool down, I used some tools I keep with me, to give the caliper a whack, and i also pushed the piston back slightly, (with difficulty). Anyway, drove home no Issues, went to work today, same again hot wheel, Ive ordered a new caliper, and will be getting it fitted asap, Thanks All

Coming back from Bude in Cornwall many years ago with my friend in his Rover400 in front, when we got to m/way services, I noticed I could smell brake linings being hot. It was the front disc on my friends car, smoking and if it was dark, you would have seen it glowing, bit like Le Mans cars at night. He called AA. When they got to us, he said it was going to be interesting to find out what it was as they did not get much trouble with Rover 400 series. What was it? A flat piece of stone had got jammed between the disc and the caliper. It had put a nice grove in the disc, but it drove home ok and my friend said that he could not feel any difference while driving it before we found out what it was.

I had my handbrake retaining pins pull through the backplate and start rubbing. That made the odd grinding noise and got things hot.
Sprayed the wheel in iron filings too. Grr |
