Are you doing the work yourself? Your best weapon is observation, not replacing components and hoping for a solution. Most KV6 coolant leaks are from the plastic components in the 'V'. Some folk have leaking inlet manifold gaskets (were the screws tightened to the specified torque?) and there are good and bad quality water pumps I believe (look for coolant droplets on the oil filter). Is your running temperature higher than the low to mid nineties? Are you overfilling the expansion tank? Simon

Some work i helped with, some of it is done without me there. My friend/mechanic is very picky about quality so when possible the part are OEM/original MG Rover. Also no drops on oilfilter.
The V is perfectly dry and no signs of a leak there (or anywhere for the matter). I dont know if the IM had been removed but if it was the correct torques were probably used because i know he knows those kind of things by head as an ex-mgRover dealer mechanic. I ve been observing here for weeks now. Checking the coolant every day (also when the car is standing for a week or so). I top up to just below the MAX step. The word MAX is not covered by coolant. Temp stays perfect between 89 and 92,93. When standing still it move slowly to 100 then fan kicks in and brings it down. Thnx again! Merijn

Just so you know, seldom but it does happen I have had it, that water pumps leak from day one. Check near the bottom of the cam cover near the pulley. If you have traces of water here the pump is leaking. So in all of this, you can perhaps exclude the radiator, although I owul still give it a thorough check, especially around the core, where it goes into the plastic housings. Take nothing for granted until you have checked.

Hi, can it be with an 75 that the coolant level the car wants is lower than the LOW mark in the tank?
My sd1 has that. I kept topping her up but then i thought of marking the level when it got low again. Now she has hold the coolant at precisely that mark level for over 10 years (with a change for fresh coolant every now and then obviously). That cars has a max level which sits 7 or 8 cm lower than normal. Is it known for a 75V6 to do the same?

Well i just had to add 300 ml to get the coolant up to level again so it just keeps dropping. I am think of checking the inletmanifold gaskets now. they hadnt been removed when swapping the thermo-housing so maybe after al these year the had gone... Fingers crossed.
What do i need to buy when taking of the InletManifold? Just two of the green original gaskets or do i need more of this? http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001713

Well its been a month. Kept checking her. Changed heater matrix so now heater works on both sides. Cut the heater matrix open and it was clogged up Sow that needed changing.
Now for the coolant mistery. Coolant stil keeps dropping with no trace. But What i did notice is that after driving her and letting het cool down for like 6 hours the coolant level is HIGHER then it was before the trip. Next day stil at he same HIGH point. After a few days then suddenly low again or after the next trip is low again. A RISING in coolant on a cooled down engine is a sign of air getting in right? (Headgasket? Exhaust manifolt or inlet manifolt gasket?) Also i thouroghly cleaned the space under the oilfiller cap of mayo that was there. And the mayo slowly came back. Building up bit by bit after Esch trip. I made sure NOT to take the car for short trips. Only long drives of minimum 30 minutes. Headgasket getting more obvious right? (I dont mind anymore. Just want to know so that i van finally get her fixed, whatever the costs) Hope i get it figured out before our vacation to the southcoats of England this summer. We want to take that trip with the 75

Merijn,
Personal loyalty is the biggest obstacle to tracing your problem: Quote:
That's what I would do in your position. I would say not. Much more likely to be those inlet manifold gaskets. The KV6 head gaskets are MLS and will only fail if the engine is seriously abused. For example, another club member's V6 had a thermostat which did not open. The coolant temperature rose rapidly to absurdly high temperatures on several occasions whilst the owner worked out the cause. Neither head gasket failed. Simon
