Default Updating an old Samsung Tablet?

I have an oldish Samsung galaxy tablet (Model No GT-P7510.) Its running Android version 4.0.4.

Trying to get an update for this Tab is a nightmare. !! Samsung are refusing to update for some strange reason.

Whats so annoying is there is nothing wrong with it at all.!

I understand i can 'Root' the device and get an update that way but im a little weary i might damage it in the process.!

Any help/advice appreciated.

Cheers

I think my tablet is the same as yours(edit: just checked, mine is a Tab2 from nearly 4 years ago), and updates have ceased for it (official ones anyway lol) . No doubt to 'encourage' you to buy the latest model. Personally I am not bothered as I use it as an alarm clock, and for videos when travelling on planes etc. The problem I believe is that new versions of Android etc can be quite power hungry and cause either additional battery drain, or slow running. The drawback s, some apps do also cease to operate. If you do not use it for anything heavy or the latest apps, then leave alone. (disable the auto update on the apps too)

I did root an old phone once to allow the latest Android to operate, but whilst the rooted update was designed for the low power (and ram etc) of my phone, it was so slow it was almost unusable. Like computers, in a few years when OS updates start to slow down, you will see the 'working life' of tablets extend beyond a year or two.

All products now such as Samsung Tabs, Phones, Apple etc have a limited life span, they are designed to accept updates, however a stage comes where the supplier cuts off updates to certain models thus forcing users to accept the slower less adequate model or to simply upgrade to a newer model.

I currently use an i phone 5S and totally aware that I will probably need to look at a newer phone model in around the next eighteen months.

Sadly this is the age of modern technology

As explained , just like old samsung s3 phones and other android based models , there is a life span for the OS. Most old phones go upto 4.4.2 jelly bean whilst phones like the note 4 currently is on 6.0
Newer google phones now have 7.0
As the tab2 is old the only way to bring it up to the later OS is to root it. The following site explains it well.
http://www.android.gs/update-samsung...shmallow-cm13/
The same will go for older android devices
older versions of windows pc and laptops suffer the same problems ,with no updates being rolled out for xp and less updates being rolled out for vista.
These will need updating to win 7 or later
