Default cruise control dead

Hi guys , I have a mate with 2005 ZTT with cruise control. He never uses it to be honest but swears that the dash switch would illuminate the light and id work. Now a day or so back the dash switch doesn't light up at all and the cruise doesn't engage at all.
I took a quick look and he's right , it doesn't work , tried looking at the fuse but that is OK. Where do I look next ? how do I fault find ? where is the ecu for it ( if there is one )

Thanks

check the brake and clutch pedal switches, these usually pop out of place which prevents the cruise control from engaging, as it thinks you have your foot down on the brake or clutch the most common cause for cruise control to stop working.

Ok , thanks, i'll check that out.

And that will stop the dash switch from illuminating as well ?

when you say dash light, do you mean the yellow cruise control symbol on the instrument cluster or the green light on the cruise control master switch?

Sorry I should have made that clearer.
I mean the master switch

ah in that case it's probably a different issue. If it was the brake or clutch pedal switches the master switch would still illuminate.

Wouldn't know what would cause that but hopefully someone will come along who does

Could just be the switch itself, on mine when you press it often does not light the led, but "wiggle" the switch a bit until it lights ok, a fault that`s forgotten about until next time I use it.

The switch will light up even with components missing, i.e. the cruise control ecu and steering wheel switches ....
