Default Hot wheel,

Hi all, Hope everyone is well.

Seems like the V, has decided to throw another spanner in the works,

I pulled up from work yesterday and noticed a hot smell from the car, had a look round, and found it to be the Rear driver side wheel.
The caliper was warm, but the drum and was extremely hot.

I did have an odd rumble when i was pulling off, but went away yesterday morning, so thought nothing of it,
Is it possible that the Hub Bearing has failed, or could it be something to do with the shoes?

Thanks in advance

My wife's 75 did exactly the same. The caliper was seized. Pushed the piston out as far as I dared then lifted the rubber where it seals against the piston and applied a small quantity of DOT4 with a syringe. Worked the piston in and out a few times. That was a few weeks ago. I have monitored it regularly and it has not seized again. At the same time ALB pedal shudder started. Now that is proving much more difficult to fix. See the post I did today.

Hi there, thanks for the reply,

I'd agree with you on the caliper, but mine has been refurbed, new seals, pistons etc, and they arent getting as hot as the drum itself,

I'm striping it down later today, and will hopefully find the cause,

New/refurbed calipers can fail; been there and done that a few times unfortunately!

The handbrake shoes could be stuck on though as well; was the caliper itself hot did you feel?!

Another fault that caused my wheel/disc/drum to get hot was the friction material had separated from the shoe moved round to the other shoe and wedged into the space between the friction material on the good shoe and the drum.

Have had that on a Tranny Van. Wouldn't move at all!

How does the car perform when braking, usually you can feel a difference with a seized calliper, can you see your disc glowing orange?

How does the handbrake perform, does it hold the car? Have the shoes ever been replaced? If the shoes are original, they will most probably be broken up, not fit for purpose and may be the cause of the problem.

Sounds like a handbrake shows fault IMO

If the caliper was seized; you'd very much know about it!

Get it stripped down and looked it ASAP f you can

Evening all,

Stripped the rear brake system down the weekend,

Piston moved free, and the hub spun with no bearing noise.
Even after taking the disc off and checking it over we found nothing,
Put it back together, been driving all week without any issue's, I'll be keeping an eye on it,
But lost as too the cause.
