Not really - I've been using Collinite on my wheels for over 10 years now with no issues. It works every bit as well on wheels as it does on bodywork - it's just paint when all is said and done. Next time you go for a long run in your '75, check how hot the wheels actually get, I suspect you'll be pleasantly surprised.

As long as your wheels are cleaned regularly to avoid any real build up of brake dust, I really don't see why they should need any special treatment over and above what you do to the bodywork. A good coating with a decent wax or sealant will allow brake dust & road film to be washed away with normal car shampoo. Of course, if you're really fussy, you can remove them at regular intervals to clean and wax the back of the wheel, but watch out for the funny looks from the neighbours.

I like to use a dose of Iron-X, then liquid wax followed by spray sealant such as the one made by Auto Glym. As brakes throw off tiny particles that can sink into paint, I prefer the liquids to get a better coverage and seal up any footholds these bits can get their teeth into.

Wheels will come off mind in a few weeks when we see the back of the salt. Get the backs all cleaned up and re paint the calipers as they are rusting a little.

Just ordered a Collinite 476
