Default Cooked luk poo

Well I bought a bmw 318ti for a pound yesterday, went to pick it up, and the smally luk pile of poo clutch refused to bite, and burnt the hell out of itself....
Its allways smelled at the tiniest hint of use, but a tight spot, a ton and a half of german metal behind it really shoed its colours. Theres still some material there, but I wonder how long for?

By the time you finish reading this short post I can assure you that your clutch is now dead.------------

I suspect you're right, will carry on driving to see how long it lasts, I'm not heavy on it, but will start looking for an alternative - tempted to get a spare I have re lined with some decent material. Anyone used EBC?

I thought Sachs was the OEM supplier of clutches to BMW, or has it been changed previously?

I'm fairly sure you're correct Phil, SACHS is a German brand and an OEM supplier.

I will never install a LUK if I can avoid it, especially not a DMF set up.
I would further, whenever possible, convert a DMF to standard..
Further, buy an automatic when possible, gives other problems, but generally in todays traffic an exquisite luxury.

I was wondering when I read your headline, thought it was a Thai dish!

I would always install LUK, never convert to single mass flywheel, and never have an automatic.

Just to balance things up you understand

So the OP has bought a car for a pound, well I'd consider that a slipping clutch is a luxury on such an extravagant purchase

You misunderstand me marinabrian, the poo clutch was on the mgzt tow car.....
I too, will never fit another LUK...
Just re-read my post, it wasn't very clear!

Nope, still not convinced, I still wouldn't fit anything else, and that includes the badge engineered Borg and Beck (firstline) and would never entertain any other brand of hydraulics........period.

So you burned out a clutch which has smelled of burned friction material since fitting? well it's time to assess why that was the case, and if you fitted it yourself ask where you went wrong

All this is a bit late in the day for this clutch of course, that time has long passed, so perhaps the next one will be better
