Bmw 318ti, 1200kg, lightweight (shortened) brian james trailer, approx 400kg (guess admittedly).
I fail to follow your maths, but feel free to enlighten me?

A clutch can pull a trailer and car.

The train weight of your vehicle and trailer loaded, must not exceed the kerb weight of the towing vehicle. In the case of the 75/ZT that equates to around 1485kg for saloon and 1560 for tourer So what Reece is referring to is that the weight of the car(BMW) and trailer combined, will be greater than 1485/1560., so actually a law infringement. If you look in the towing guide on the caravan forum, posted by ColinNI, you will see.

The ORIGINAL clutch assembly factory fitted to my 2.5KV6 75 Tourer (02) was an AP (all items including slave). Now has LUK

Its allways smelled at the tiniest hint of use, but a tight spot, a ton and a half of german metal behind it really shoed its colours. Theres still some material there, but I wonder how long for?
So let me understand this clearly, I might have misread the post, ' paid a pound for the car',so I am amazed the thing does anything at all, a clipping clutch is extravagant to say the least. I would say the thing is dead, get new clutch, or better still, sell it for two pounds, less trouble, plus a profit of a whole pound.
Good luck

Lol, i never cease to be amazed by smartarses giving me advice, when they themselves can't even read...
I fully accept though that the load being towed was heavier than recommnded.
This is a safety limit, and has nothing to do with the reason the clutch failed. The clutch failed because it was a pile of poo, has allways been since I fitted it.
I thank you all, all the same, and I don't need anyone's misappropriated luck.
