Thanks, but they don't look sharp. The 2nd pic is an improvement but still doesn't look sharp. I used a fast shutter speed, think it was 640th of a second. Still need more practise. Will try next time it comes around. Not tonight though!

That looks just as I would expect. I can't remember exactly what gear you have but I looking at the image I would say it looks typical of a DSLR and lens combo of entry to mid level.
I get the same problem with my gear. My sensor is pretty good (a 24mp modern design) but my £250 70-210 just does not have the resolution. I am just waiting for my lottery win Edit: Forgot to say - If you want more sharpness, shooting when the moon is high in the sky can give better results as you will be shooting less distance through the atmosphere. That said it won't be a whole lot better than what you got last night but maybe a little. Last edited by Rocket; 13th January 2017 at 10:05.. |

Good shot Jeff. What lens was that?

I had a look on Flickr to see what pics folks had obtained of the moon with my camera model.
It showed what a great camera it can be if coupled with good long lenses. Sony are a bit lacking in long, top class lenses so many fit canon lenses instead Well I find it interesting I was going to link the images here and then realized that I have no idea if it is allowable under copyright to link other peoples Flickr images to a forum. Here is a link to the search page - A huge difference in quality of the images depending on the lens used. https://www.flickr.com/search/?q=a6000%20moon |
