Default Mg zt 190 timing

Hi

If the 190 timing has been messed with and the front pulley timed to that of a 177, is there a way to tell? And can it be correctly timed back up without removing the cam cover?

Thanks

Engine noise & misfires I would imagine! (bent valves?)
The only way to adjust the vlave timing (with or without the proper tools) is to remove the belt covers etc.

It will still run ok if it has been timed as a 180, it will just throw up an engine management light.

I would not guarantee the engine management light being on. I have recently done a belt on an Astra that the owner was complaining of lack of power and poor fuel consumption since the belt was done a few months ago. I was told by a main dealer it would not be the belt as the engine management would be on. No codes or pending codes just poor performance.

The garage that did the job have since ceased trading.

I tried to align the timing marks before I removed the old belt and it was clearly off, my guess at least one tooth but possibly 2. Anyway a new belt and correctly aligned and the car is now back to full health.

Well on a 190 timed as a 180, it definitely throw up a light, I know as I had to recode the car to a 177 and the light went out

I would expect the management light to be on but surprised no damage would occur?
Having said that, I've always used the correct tools when doing a belt change etc so couldn't really be sure what would happen!

Thanks for replies chaps. My predicament:

190 made 167 on the rollers. Full service the day before including new vis motors and plugs.

I'm baffled - either got to be a dodgy dyno or timing out? Engine/car feels healthy.

Can I check if it's timed incorrectly?

Dynomometer measured power at the wheels is always lower than the power at the flywheel. I believe the '190' figure is the theoretical flywheel power. It seems to be at least 10% lower at the wheels and more with an automatic gearbox. And dynomometers do vary in cross referenced comparisons. A T4 session might reveal more indicators.

Sorry t cut, should've been clearer...

167 was estimated/corrected crank power, 140 odd at wheels.

Thanks

Check that one of the pulleys hasnt slipped one or two teeth, that seems very very low on bhp.
