Two questions however,

1) How much fluid should I purchase? Some people are saying 4.5l will be enough, others say around 6 litres?

2) Is the level plug easy to find? Can't quite spot it in the photo and don't want that to be the stumbling block!

Thanks again for an informative 'How to'.
That was my only concern as well not being able to locate the level plug any chance of a pic showing circled?

Thanks
Clive

Turn to page 1B.13 in your Haynes manual Clive; there's a good photograph there.

'Wish list' Clive? You can get one from e-bay for about the price of three gallons of diesel.

Level plug circled in red. You need a 5mm allen key to undo this

I know what you mean Clive; I am feeling the recession too.

Transmission fluid is not cheap, so maybe you should consider postponing a change until later?

Beinet1 has now shown the level plug clearly on the far right hand side of his photograph above.

Excellent how to, but still makes me wonder:
Do you start with a hot engine like Haynes describes?
When the level plug (allen key) is removed is the engine still running then, likes Haynes says to do? They also recommend to select all the gears again while levelling.
But how long does it taken to warm up the autobox oil when the car is not riding = no load on the auto...?

I suppose after the refill of the first 4l, the fresh oil wil be mixed inside the box with the remaining oil and in this way also partly be flushed out through the cooler. So these steps maybe need to be done 2x or 3x to have 'all' the old oil out?

I don't understand Ford Perfect's addition, how can fresh oil be drawn into the gearbox? Do you need 2 containers connected then? a full fresh one on the filler plug and a empty one on the oilcooler connection?
