A few years ago i changed a rear hub on a zr, the new hub kit also had a 36mm hex nut instead of a 32mm, like Brian suggested just be careful unstaking the original and reuse it

Fitted a rear hub on a 03 cdti yesterday.
Already had a 36mm nut fitted & my 3/4 drive 36mm socket fitted inside the hub with no problem at all.

With the same thread size, I'd fit a 36mm nut in preference to 32mm on the wheel hub. The reason seems obvious.

Ive just looked in the old zr manual and found written in the back by myself, n/s rear hub nut 32mm of/side 36 mm

your average diyer might not have a 32 mm or 36 mm socket in their toolbox

I think my biggest is 80 mm 3/4 drive

I bought 2 rear hubs from Mat at DMGRS and he supplied 32mm nuts .... the same size as I removed from my car. A 2002 1.8 Club SE.

My tip, whichever size nut you use, make sure you have a good Torque Wrench .... they go on REAL tight!. I also used a hexagonal socket to ensure a good fit.

All my nuts are still on yes. Since i ground down the outer skin of my 36mm socket i am gradually replacing with 36mm nuts whenever the need arises to remove one. The last was a front hub nut while i was replacing an abs sensor.

I have a set of rear bearings I bought last year some time that when I fitted one of them, I discovered that the nut supplied was a 32mm hex, but the thread was about 2mm too small for the stub axles - wierd and annoying.

At some point I'll fit the other one.

We do indeed supply a 32mm nut, we like to stick with factory spec parts - hopefully our supplier will keep up stock of the 32mm and not move to 36mm.

That makes sense except as shown above, there's not really enough space to fit a 36mm socket down the hub to the nut.
