How to Air Free Easy Coolant Fill Up K-Series & KV6
Successful air free method used in filling up a coolant system for the K-series and KV6 engines.
If you are not confident in using this method. Don't use it. No liabilities accepted. Last edited by Lovel; 15th June 2016 at 14:41.. |

Hi.
So how does it expel the air from the bottom hose? I'd also modify an old cap with an old tyre valve and use a foot pump, obviously if done correctly there's no need to use the finger over the hole method! If the method can expel air from the bottom hose etc, I'd agree it looks like a good idea.

The technique is based on not having to use any special tooling, but obviously for someone planning to do this on multiple occasions a plug for the stub on the coolant tank and/or a modified cap with perhaps a balloon could be utilised. |

Kind of like the opposite of vacuum refilling.
What does blowing into the header tank do? I guess with enough puff, you'll vent the head through the bleed hose, but you'll never push anything through the heater matrix surely? So you could use Arctic's bike pump method of pressure testing to do the bleeding as well. EDIT: Blimey a year old thread! Guess I became cross-threaded on several tabs. I think that will just fill the system with air TC. Reading Gary's description, a modified radiator cap incorporating the tyre pump connection would not only work, but be a safer way to bleed the system. PS the photo shows the GhettoTech cold pressure tester, and I should know 'cos I built it. . Last edited by Mike Noc; 14th June 2019 at 23:05.. |

Sounds like the same effect as lifting the expansion tank but more so - there will be a head of pressure pushing the coolant round the engine.

Yes I see that the effect is analogous, but I doubt anyone has the puff to push coolant through the heater loop by blowing into the header. The technique is supposed to bleed the complete cooling system without pump assistance. I simply don't see it working myself.
How can it purge the heater matrix? Remember the only exit is through the head bleed hose. TC |
