Default Winter tyres

Well, got the winter tyres fitted today on Mrs mininuts' Aygo, just in time by the looks of it, loads of snow coming down now

Bought them off eBay, set of four hardly part worn Michelin Alpins, all with 6.5mm of tread, evenly worn, no repairs......next best thing to brand new really.
£100 delivered and £25 for the local garage to fit them..............quite pleased with that

We'll have to see how they perform over the next few months, they do get good reviews though

Nice one. My two front tyre could do with being replaced but I will wait until the spring.

I fitted 4 brand new Nokian WRD4 tyres last week and I'm amazed at the grip in the wet, I thought my previous Goodyear Efficient Grip were good but these are stunning, can't wait for the snow!

Yes, looked at those Nokian myself but decided on the Michelin. I've had Nokian in the past, very good tyres

Almost totally pointless in the UK.

Unless you live in the Highlands on a small road, the 2-3 days in a whole year you might actually need them make it pointless.

Winter tyres are rubbish compared to decent summers in anything above about 10DegC.

I should know, I have winters fitted to mine, but seeing as where I live now, if a snow dump comes down on an autobahn and you are on Summers.... you are in trouble!

They are much better on sheer ice, snow, etc etc, and as long as the temperature is above 0DegC in my opinion, they are pointless.

The wet performance isnt all that either, about on par with an average quality, new set of summer tyres.

Even on the A93 to Glenshee ski center, I never got stuck on summers! The irony is, that if its bad enough to REALLY make use of winters, they close the damn road to everyone, making the winters totally redundant!

Dont get me wrong, like I said, if you are on an Autobahn and a blizzard starts, my god you are going to be stressed out on summers, and also liable for any accidents you may cause whilst on them.

Couldnt believe it when I came back to UK with my winters on, and the temperature in Scotland was 10DegC in Dec/Jan!!

They just wear down like crazy when the temps are this high, I was furious, and wish I had kept my summers on!

If you drive in temperatures of less than 8deg then winter tyres are not pointless, the rubber compound in summer tyres at this temperature just doesn't perform. Winter tyre rubber compound stays soft at temperatures in the minuses, so regardless of whether there is snow on the ground winter tyres in low temperatures are better period.
I've had winter tyres on previous cars including Michelin and Pirelli but these present Nokian blow everything out of the water, the treadwear rating is 400 so better than my summer tyres which are only 300.

Just for the record, I've found the old invoice for the Nokians I had, they were WRD3s and, I covered nearly 20,000 miles with them. So, in my experience, they wear no worse than any 'summer' tyres I've ever had

I agree with T16`s post, waste of time and money, just drive with more care. Putting winter tyres on our cars will not transform it into a 4x4
Take things slowly.
