Fitting Alpine Head Unit
I have just registered after acquiring a 2003 ZT-T last weekend. First I want to fit my Alpine CDA-105Ri Head Unit and remove the Kenwood HU & Changer.
The existing Kenwood is model KRC-394 + CD Changer (Glove Box). Are there any snags or problems anybody can advise on before I undertake this & do I need anything extra to get the steering column control working with the Alpine please? Also what are members thoughts on the standard MG ZT (Rover 75?) speaker system? Whilst not expecting it to be A1, I'm hoping the standard speakers are fairly good quality - as it seems lots of hassle to replace them (door fittings etc!). I'm not a boom system fanatic and just after some quality sound really at a reasonable volume. Many Thanks |

Standard speakers are NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD-NAUGHTY WORD- I'm afraid.
Get some Alpine speakers that are the same size and you will feel much better. The Kenwood system uses standard ISO connectors however the steering controls will require an adaptor.

If it's the factory fitted kenwood with the infra-red steering controls it will also need a slight alteration to the wiring for the adapter lead.

Actually I wouldn't dismiss the standard speakers out of hand. I had a harmony system in my 75 and upgraded to an Alpine head unit last week. The difference was astounding even with the old speakers (that is goodmans components in front and midwoofers only in the rear. I think you should just change the head unit first and then aim to change the speakers at your leisure...starting with new components (midwoofers and tweeters) in front. I always intended to upgade the speakers also and have just done the fronts. It's sounding good. So get that HU done and then see where you stand....there is no rush.

Looking at the link in Duotone's post, Incartec do a plug'n'play adapter lead for the ZT with the infra-red system, their part no. 29-625.
