Default Do I really need it

After reading various threads on this forum about cooling fan failure, I decided to purchase one that was advertised on ebay as a spare ( you know just in case). I have a 2002 1800 club se with 30,000 miles.

Have I lost the plot!!! or is this something other people have done, for all I know my fan might outlast the car.

It was not until I thought about what I had done, that it occured to me there are lots of faults with these cars am I going to buy extra stocks of all the maybe items that could fail.

Your comments would be very welcome good or bad:lol:

Knowing the fan motors on these cars, I'm sure if you keep the car for a few years you will definitely use it. If it came at a good price then good on you, rather than paying over the odds when it does go wrong.

I gave £250 for it Tom, do not know if that is good or bad, but it is brand new so it will be stored now until it is needed.

When mine went earlier this year, I think I paid about £320 from Bishop & Bishop in Wigston. So well done.

Best to have a whole car standing by, just in case

I thought you were having second thoughts about your smiley plate then

Many people on the forum collect spares "just in case" one member has to my knowlage three different handbrakes!!!

My thoughts on this are simple, if it is a bargain, buy it, if not then the way the spares situation improving / being maintained, its not worth paying over the odds as a just in case.

Fans are a perfect example, reaching around £400 recently, now thanks to Keith under £180 with a "how to" thrown in. Not saying I haven't squandered my ill gotten gains on "Tatt" (no I haven't give him money) but I have tried to keep to a budget.

May be other views but thats my two pence worth

p.s. give you a tenner for the fan

Well dave I am shocked, when I saw "Stocktake" had replied to my thread my heart sank, but on reading your text it was comforting to know that there was only mention to "Tatt"s" seems I got off light. well this time anyways.

Yes I think you are right Dave, if it's a bargain buy it, if not then spares hopefully will begin to flood the market again.

PS I looked at the smiley plate with the clubs logo on but the guy is away until the 4th Dec so I will order asap on his return.

Ageed with above: If it's a bargain then why not have a punt at it, afterall - what have you to lose? You can always re-sell them if needed at a later date. There is no need really just to keep piles of spares just for the sake of it though - unless you plan on building a car from scratch
