Default Towing with a 75 Tourer

I have a 1.8 Turbo Automatic Tourer and I would like to use it to transport 700kg of marble tiles to Southern Spain. I will be driving alone.

From what I understand that would be too heavy to take in the car boot space as with the driver and luggage it'd be 800kg+ in weight.

If I were to purchase a smaller trailer I could split the weight between the boot and trailer but would this trailer need brakes or will the car start/ stop well enough on it's own?

Appreciate any guidance.
Thanks

Personally I would want a braked trailer to attempt it, I seem to remember Spain has a lot of hills.
