Default jumping on cd player

Hi all

Just a bit of advice please. I have a Kenwood cd changer, and find that occasionally, I either get a moment's silence or the music 'jumps' slightly to another part of the track.

I have used a cleaning cd, but this does not seem to have had any effect. Is there anything I can do, please? Don't really want to fork out for a new cd changer - just spent £1,000 on clutch repairs!

Are the actual CDs 'proper' bought ones, or ones that you've made yourself?

When I have made CDs in the past if I have used the cheap and cheerful cds I get what you are experiencing.

Does this occur on particular CDs or just at random on any?
I ask as it may be an issue with very minor scratches which your home or computer CD player will forgive.
I have an Alpine CHA-S634 6CD changer and it jumps but only on particular CDs which look OK to me and work elsewhere.

Also put a Proper Cleaning disc through.

EDIT: Must read original Post properly.

Pete, check for water ingress which may have run onto the autochanger, Is it a kenwood autochanger and is it mounted in the boot or the dash? if yours is a saloon, I think its in the tyre well?

My kenwood changer was in the loading bay on my ZTT and had some water leak onto it, but it had always skipped especially when the weather was cold or damp, caused by a combination of condensation on the cds and the 'liquid' mounts in the changer becoming 'solid' when its cold so they dont cushion the bumps and knocks as well as it did when the weather was warm. during hot weather it worked perfectly...I changed my sound system in the end and put a JVC bluetooth/ipod system, it didnt cost that much to do and I now have a choice of over 900 songs on the move....the JVC also has a superb sound, much better than the old kenwood.
