Any good wax or sealant will help in that regard, but I doubt it would just "shrug off", whatever was used. I suppose you'll have to consider it the price you pay for living in the nicest place on the planet (my opinion, of course).

Collinite is a wax/sealant. It won't shrug it off but it will make it easier to remove when washing the car like all sealants. It's added protection to the bodywork so makes future washing so much easier if kept on top.

Thanks guys. I need to find time to do this then. Is it different from Mer wax or polish? I have a sachet of that somewhere.

You would polish the car first before waxing unless you've polished it recently already. The polish will help with the cleanliness of the body and to get the shine out of it and then you would seal the hard work with a wax or sealant. You should then wax the car after you wash it in future to keep on top of it. All waxes do the same job.

Exo V2 is as close to shrugging off mud as you will get, if it's rinsed before it dries it should run off! Although there is no magic solution...

I thought wax was polish Rav?

I've just treated my three to two coats of Autoglym Super Resin polish followed by a coat of Autoglym Extra Gloss Ptrotection sealant.

My daily (the 45) stands outside so it makes sense to add a fresh coat of wax after each wash.

Hi Mick

Polish and wax are two different things.

Polish is used to remove fine layers of the top coat of your paint to remedy the imperfections on the paint such as swirls, scratches etc. It works as an abrasive which works into the paintwork as you polish. This is what gives it the polish look and the deep shine you get from the bodywork and minimises some of the scratches and swirls.

Once you have polished it, you would then apply wax over it in order to protect what the polish has done. The wax acts as a seal. It minimizes any future contamination that the bodywork would attract if you hadn't protected it such as road tar, inductrial fallout, bird poo, every day debris, etc.

If done properly, you should only have to polish your car 1-3 times a year. As long as you then regularly keep on top of it by regularly washing it and using correct washing techniques and adding a sealant. Nothing wrong with adding a sealant after each wash or every two as this will help prolong the life of the paintwork. You'll find that some waxes also have a very light abrasive which will cover any imperfections too, not as much as a polish, however. A lot of people have the idea that it is the wax that adds the shine. This is not the case. It helps it a little, but the shine comes from the prep beforehand.

I also wouldn't polish your car over the wax as this will strip the wax off as the polish is an abrasive and will cut through it then you're back to square one.

Hope that helps.

If you want to top up the wax over winter i use this detailer. It seems to help keep the car a bit cleaner.
