Replacement alternator for 75 CDTi?
Anyone had any experience with aftermarket alternators? Car's going into the garage this week to investigate a charging problem (described in another thread) and may need a new alternator, belt etc. Garages don't seem to like fitting recon units so I'm wondering if there is a particular brand people have had decent experience with.

Alternatively, Valeo or Bosch will be quality units. e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Complete-A...QAAOSwNnRYidVS Cheaper alternatives follow: http://www.mister-auto.co.uk/en/alte..._a3934633.html cevam is a French reconditioning company. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BOLK-Compl...sAAOSwknJXzCVF Mister Auto usually delivers from a European country and it can take up to a couple of weeks. Have you considered replacing the voltage regulator and brush assembly? It can be done with the alternator still on the car and if it fixes the problem is much less hassle.

Yup. Tried this and made no difference at all. Gone to a good local garage as I just haven't got enough time to keep looking for the fault. I think it could be a dodgy earth cable or damaged connection somewhere as I drove car through water before the problem kicked in (same day), We'll see tomorrow.

Just to close this off, ha a fohrenbuhl OEM quality unit fitted this week and back on the road again. All in plus new belt £301, around 3 hrs labour. It's got three year guarantee so we'll see how it goes.
