Default Another strange and well timed issue: I'm losing faith in my car.

Greetings from Edirne, Turkey. I hope you are all doing well.

My car is a 75 2.0 petrol (obviously LHD and pre-facelift MY 2000 as it's a car made for Turkish markets), never hit by any LPG modifications.

However, my car also does not have the proper plenum spyhole modifications. The last plenum drain check was last month by a qualified former Rover electrician.

The car has been sitting by my parents, under an evergreen tree for 3 weeks, and was last run 4 days ago. Today, earlier in the morning it received a spray of water, and also rain afterwards. We found it unable to start.

It has had its LSM changed 3 times in 2 years due to plenum problems, one resulting in a small to moderate fire. We also learned afterwards that the front headlights were rerouted due to corrosion in passenger-side fusebox.

We tried to boost the car through my father's 2022 MkVIII Golf, and at full throttle in idle; my car's starter motor never even tried, the silence was as if it did not exist in the first place. However, the dipped beams light up whenever we try to start, and we have never noticed that kind of behaviour?

Could someone hint me about what is happening with this vehicle? Because I'm losing faith after all the problems I had within two years of being a Rover owner.

Thanks.

It wont be a wet ecu as the petrol ones are sealed.

As far as I know, as this one is LHD, the ECU on the far side. Something must have happened with the left side, where LSM is located.

On RHD cars, the EWS module (part of the immobiliser system) is hidden behind the light switch module. Could this be the same on LHD vehicles? If it is, yours may have gotten wet when the LSM did.

The immobiliser inhibits the starter motor so a wet/damaged EWS might explain why the starter isn't doing anything. It might be worth removing your EWS and checking its condition and the connector for corroded pins. https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=304820

This could be as simple as a discharged battery Tayanç; the clue being the headlamps. Begin by charging the battery for at least 24 hours then try again and report back please.

Turns out our booster cable was bad. Another booster cable got my car running in the morning. By the way, I got my car connected to TOAF for the first time today. I will be posting the reported errors soon.

Like already said above, charge the battery or replace it.

I removed my battery off my car to charge it, and had problems when it was reconnected.
It was as if some of the body ECU's had "gone to sleep" and I had weird problems.
It took roughly 3 days before the car started to behave itself again.

Even if things still don't work initially with a fully charged battery, lock it up, walk away and leave it a day or two and try again. That's what I ended up doing with mine!

Thanks for reporting back Tayanç. In your euphoria, as Odd Job says, don't overlook charging your battery for at least 24 hours. It obviously needs it!
